Theron Humphrey is a North Carolina-born photographer currently undertaking a US book tour with his dog Maddie.
“Burnt out on corporate life”, in 2011 Theron set out to visit all 50 states with the intention of photographing one person a day for a year. Alongside the portraits, Humphrey allowed each individual to tell their story, creating a Kickstarter-funded audio/visual project entitled This Wild Idea.
While on tour, Humphrey started photographing Maddie, a shelter-rescued Coonhound who had accompanied him. He quickly picked up on her knack for patience and a whole lot of balance. The images – shot exclusively on iPhones – became something of an internet sensation and gained him a huge number of followers on Instagram and Twitter. The resulting book, Maddie on Things – A Super Serious Project About Dogs And Physics is published next month.
Inspired by Maddie, Humphrey is also undertaking another project while on his book tour - Why We Rescue takes the same audio/visual format as This Wild Idea but allows rescue animal owners to tell their story.
